WECAN would like to say a huge thank you for the success we have had from the 2024 Great North run, held on September 9th 2024. Although it turned out to be a bit of a soggy one, there was a lot of smiling faces and the atmosphere was unmatched! Our special thank you would be to the runners themselves for their dedication with training, the run itself and the fundraising that has been achieved.
We had a variety of runners this year, from absolute beginners to the seasoned-all weather runners and we very proud of every one! Stephanie Wilson, Zorina Horsley, Colin Simpson, Georgia Findlay, Lucy Dodd, Catherine Dodd and Peter Holmes you are all super stars. Then we can’t forget WECAN’S very own ‘Children’s Service Delivery Manager’ Kirsty Jackson who completed the GNR for the First time along with our Trustee Stephen Holmes who likes to compete with his personal best, well done to you all.
Not everyone is used to running, never mind 13.1 miles with the atmosphere like the Great North Run and of course this years challenging weather and I’m not sure you can prepare for all of the emotions that this legendary race will throw upon you – but you all smashed it, for a really good cause.
We would like to extend our gratitude to Hannah Finnigan who runs a dance school in Hexham called Hannah Lucy Stage School, Pete Surridge, Director of Ridgetek Web Solutions and also Charlotte Dodd from Charlie’s coaching who kindly sponsored our WECAN vests and bags. We are very grateful for all who made WECAN Great North Run 2024 the huge success that it has been.
A total of £5,268.25 was raised which could not have been achieved without every single one of you!
Please be assured, this money will be a huge help to the services that we provide at WECAN. We are a relatively small charity that has been running since 1996 and has grown into a much-needed organisation for Children, Young people and adults to access Day Service, Saturday Club and Holiday Schemes. Not only has this become pivotal to our service-users who thrive on routine but it is essential respite for parents and carers too.
